Time to play -- Recess!

Our beloved President is preparing to nominate John Bolton directly into the U.N. ambassadorship by using a recess appointment!  The extremist socialist liberals in the Senate vehemently oppose Bolton, simply and only because he is a U.N. skeptic.  They have created a pretense of supposed nasty behavior to subordinates, and have demanded documents (to which they are not entitled) that have not been produced.  So they are filibustering Mr. Bolton’s nomination.  Any surprise?  There are still many of our President’s judicial nominees languishing under the evil filibusters of the left, even after the Gang of 14 deal, which only freed three of them.  Our President is doing what he has to in order to obey his mandate.

"I applaud our President’s courage.  I would add, however, that he should use a recess appointment in order to seat every single one of his filibustered judicial nominees."

I applaud our President’s courage.  I would add, however, that he should use a recess appointment in order to seat every single one of his filibustered judicial nominees.  Our President should then act like the winner of the election.  He should tell the leftists in the Senate that no Democrat pork project will make it past his desk unless and until every single nomination of his, Bolton included, has been confirmed.  If there is a filibuster of anything, he should veto everything.

The leftists’ filibusters are angering the people.  They are the obstructionists now.  So the time has come for us to play hardball.  After all, the bad guys have been playing hardball for 4 1/2 years.  Our President is finishing his last term.  He has plenty of political capital.  He can make a Presidential address and spell it out:  The left is trying to choke off what the people elected him to do, and he won’t take it anymore.  He can then veto every single bill which includes any pet project of any Democrat in Congress.

"Should our President take the courageous step of standing up to the left -- after all, they lost the last three elections -- one of two things will happen.  Either the budget deficit will shrink as the GOP votes out bills with no Democrat pork, or the filibusters will end.  Either result will be a huge benefit to America."

Should our President take the courageous step of standing up to the left -- after all, they lost the last three elections -- one of two things will happen.  Either the budget deficit will shrink as the GOP votes out bills with no Democrat pork, or the filibusters will end.  Either result will be a huge benefit to America.  Either way, the people will wisely see that our President has a backbone and is willing to stand tall for what is right.  That can only benefit him.  Could the Democrats gain ground by whining and calling W an obstructionist?  They’ll certainly try!  But they’ll look stupid as he vetoes bills with things like $500,000 for a study as to why monkeys clench their teeth (an actual Democrat pork project).

Again, our President is in an excellent position.  Will some people think that he is a bully?  Yes, but those people already think that.  Will others think that he is strong-arming away vital government programs?  Yes, but they’re already opposed to our President because they want the government to be our nanny and administer every single part of our lives, and he wants people to be free.

We therefore strongly applaud our President’s apparent decision to recess-appoint John Bolton to the U.N. ambassadorship.  We encourage him to do much, much more.
