It's About Time, Mr. President!

I am thrilled with our President’s speech this morning.  The subject was our war on terrorism.  With the extreme left relentlessly attacking our side, wrongly seeing a softspot in President Bush’s approval rating as a sign that conservatism is dead, our President could have come out with a classic, waffly-GOP cover-your-backside speech.  Instead, President Bush came out and decisively -- and deservedly -- bragged over our numerous victories in the war on terror.  Yes!  Hurrah!  It’s about time!

Our President also went into great detail about the evils that we fight.  He made it clear that these terrorists are tyrants who want to control every single aspect of the lives of as many people as possible.  You know, like the Democrats, except that they don’t use suicide bombers to achieve their goals (yet).  Osama Bin Laden was quoted as saying that he wanted to tell people what was and was not good for them.  President Bush went into detail, reminding the people of the terrorists’ utter disregard for individual rights.  I am not talking licentiousness here, I am talking about the right of Muslims in the Arab world to practice Islam as they see fit.  President Bush also noted the most disturbing fact that most of the terrorists’ targets are other Muslims!  He has again reminded us that the terrorists are the extreme of the extreme.  Yes!  Hurrah!  It’s about time!

Our President also noted that our action in Iraq is not the cause of terrorism.  It’s our reaction to that terrorism.  The leftists object loudly, crying that the alleged weapons of mass destruction were missing when we entered Iraq.  I still maintain that they exist and have been moved into Syria and/or Iran.  Saddam Hussein was a tyrant who was paying $25,000 per suicide bomber to their families.  That in and of itself warranted his unseating.  Subsequent to the invasion, we have found out that he is a genocidal murderer on the scale of history’s worst.  I don’t mean to trivialize the Shoah when I say that Saddam played in the Nazis’ league.  If we truly value human rights, including the most fundamental right to life, we have an obligation to unseat genocidal tyrants.  Bill Clinton did that in Yugoslavia with Milosevic, and the GOP did not try to make that still-ongoing involvement into Vietnam II (remember that the Democrats started Vietnam, and the GOP ended it).  Today, our President reminded us that we are in this for the survival of the country.  Yes!  Hurrah!  It’s about time!
